Rasik,

your best bet is to get it in India from GIC etc. The insurances here are expensive and do not give adequate cover. 66-69 is OK. Below 70 yrs, normal rates apply and are not much.

Rasik,
I tried both New India Insurance and United Insurance for my MIL and parents and the coverage was ok. Fortunately, I did not get a chance to experience the service. Overall, I think United is cheaper than New India Insurance. Also they won't insure for exsisting conditions

i think, most US insurance plans like patriot travel would cover the entire trip, no matter what countries u visit en route.

Hi I want to know how to deal with expenses related to preexisting conditions that are usually not covered in the insurnce. I am planning to bring my parents over here, and both of them have pre-existing cardiac conditions. Mom has a more severe condition than dad, and that's what I am worried about. If she experiences some trouble on account of her condition, how is one to pay for it? The cost of health care is astronomical in this country and should something happen, it may be far beyond my reach, but at the same time I do want to bring them over here. She has already had such a thing happen to her the last time she was here, fortunately for us, we were not charged, inspite of the fact that it was a preexisting condition. After she recieved emergency care, she opted not to get any further treatment, and opted to get further treatment in India. But even for that the cost was very very high. It's just our good luck that we were not charged. But I don't want to take that chance again. Any ideas people?

I am in the same boat and researched enough. Unfortunately, there is no insurance plan which will cover pre-existing conditions.
Check
www.buyamericaninsurance.com.
This is a site/company owned/operated by a desi Narendra Khatri. There are quiet a few forums on which he has clearly mentioned that preexisting conditions are not covered.
I also spoke with many major insurance providers here with exact same answer.

Providers like Blue Cross may provide u insurance but the rates are unimaginable (650$ per month per person for a basic HMO plan)
So there is absolutely nothing can be done about it.

Alternatives are
1) in boston (in MA), atleast there is a medical treatment unit run by indian doctors which will treat for free for visitors from india and they have network worked out which will help provide the lab tests etc at reasonable costs. (see if u got anything like that in your area)

2) council on Ageing
this is state run program typically offered in every town (most) which helps identify resources/payment options/plans/discounts etc. Not guranteed though...

3) Insurance from India
but make sure that the affiliations are not 'black listed' (I haven't found any which isn't)

thats about it..
if any one knows more options/alternatives, please share !

Vatsaru, can you tell mewhat that association in Boston is called? Maybe I can get in touch with them and see if there is anything similar in the Bay Area.
The insurance from India(I have used All India Assurance) has been good for us so far. I have had to use it on a couple of occasions, and have not encountered any problems. My FIL slipped and injured his wrist, a couple of years back in the snow, and we were reimbersed without much ado. The emergency room charges, vehicle charges etc. everything was reimbersed, and we paid about $200 total, and more than $3000 were paid by the company. But the cost of emergency vehicle, 4 hrs of emergency room services, splint cast and Drs. services cost over $3000, so one can only imagine what the costs could possibly be if another eventuality were to occur :-(

What I meant by black listed affiliations is any indian insurance company who provides insurance for usa visitors (has to) typically have some similar US based partner which can handle claims validation and payments etc. These partners also sell insurance themselves in US. Many are them are very bad-reputed in terms of claims processing, service etc. Please read the forums on buyamericaninsurance.com. Many people have listed their experiences about these insurance companies and they are applicable to their corresponding indian partners.
