Investment will come only after you save some money first. The idea behind this BB is to suggest some ways to save some money ( not on how to get best returns on it, that will come later ).
I am expecting some tips on saving money in day-to-day life like buying 'cilantro ( kothimbir )' to one-time buying like 'house/car'. Any tip is welcome : Object is to save some money. even a saving of a penny is welcome. ( a penny is Rs. 4.60 and it is definitely a good amount )
Let me start with a simple tip :
Summer is here. And gas prices are expected to rise.... Top up the gas as soon as possible. Price is definitely going to increase nextday..
( atleast for next 4-5 months ). I saw a 20% increase in Gas price in 2 weeks at my regular gas station. 6% increase was noted in one day itself.

Money and time can be interchangable (Sometimes) and it is very true in US. The more time you have to plan/shop/compare any purchase/event/travel, you will be able save money (most of the time). If you are lucky you may get last minute specials.
So the fundamental idea is to plan and start early for any major purchase to save money.

I had visited some of these to pickup new ideas for making your life simple and uncluttered. I personaly like cost saving as side result of simplifying rather than try to save cost first and live with the result. Many times I have behaved "penny wise and pound foolish" and realized later that cost saving was not worth the time and efforts spent.

Another way of saving money, which I found quite useful is to have a wholesale club card like Sam's club, BJs etc. The initial fee is approx $40 per year, but the saving is awesome. Ani ekhadya friend barobar you can split the card membership.

Newspaper is the best source of information as it is local to your place of residence ( for gathering Pricing information, features, availability in various stores and offcourse the SALE ). Select the product and note the range. Keep on checking paper for that item and the moment u see the same product offered at the lowest price, rush to the store and buy it. Lot of people are watching for the product and such items are sold very fast.
( savings made like this are offcourse more than your newspaper bill. )

I tried one do-it-yourself activity recently. In the long run it will definitely save some money.
It is doing an oil-change for your car.
It is not very difficult. My first oil change was a little messy but the subsequent ones were faster and easier.
If you have the inclination and some place where you can do it, it's worth trying. But it will cost more if you do it just a couple of times and never again. In the public libraries, there are lots of references and books and video tapes that explain to you quite nicely how to do things. Things to watch for and so on.
Has anyone else done it? Is this interesting to anyone?
