People, As said in the earlier post by KEYA that if the characters in her stories behave normally and will react to a particular situation the same way as it happens in real life then what is so special about her? Why is she called a revolutionary writer(bandkhor lekhika)? Somebody also said that people like her stories because her women characters are all "different". Isn't she then in the same league as Shailaja Raje/Nayana Aacharya/Snehalta Dasturkar/Mangala Golbole kinda writers. Not even comparable to likes of Lakshmibai Tilak/Iravatee Karve/Shanta Shelke. (of-course these are my feeling only)

Keya, I have read most of her books and the only common thread/subject I have noticed is a woman in a dilemma/situation wherein she can not stay with her "less than better-half" as she is either treated badly by her husband/ingored by him or she is trying to find true love. Except a couple of articles in magazines and one book (Vinchurniche dhade) I have found only one subject. Are there any other subjects she has written on? now something about GD... Milind, I am not trying to glorify her. These are my honest feeling. To be great, u do not need to be "bandakhor" or "different than others". Just be your own , is the key. This what I found in Laxmibai Tilak & GD. They both are satisfying my thresholds of good literature ( what I have stated earlier. ) thats why I call her great/swayambhoo. I am not expecting anybody in the world to represent/state/solve India's all types of problems. Beacuse it can not be. I fully agree that she represents problems of one perticular socity. But because of this only she is ordinary ordinary? If that is the criterian then no auther is good enough to get your appreciation. what i have seen in her literature is that, though women in her stories are not having good life to live, they are still beleaving in human relation, good values of socity and they are ready to fight against evil. "ek abala ki kaun madad kar sakata hai" Asaa rDka saur naahIyao. most important is that she believes in relations of human beings beyond age/gendor/cast. I can prove it by giving example. You read "dustar haa ghat aaNi thaang" you can find what I am saying.I agree with ajjuka also . what she is saying is also right. Milind let me know what u expect from a literature.because what we like and not, is basically depend upon it.

What a confusing post? :) Doctor Could you please give examples in the stuff written above which you are referring to in your post. e.g. are there any posts which refer to her as a woman OR which posts does not have "vicharsutra" OR which post directly/indirectly blames her OR which posts display a lack of knowledge. If somebody has read just one book of her does that mean he/she can not put a post here. WHat is the minimum qualification for putting a post here? I think NONE of above posts by ANYBODY show a insensitive or casual remarks about her and almost everybody has read her work if not all of it. Let us not try to tell people what they should or not write. Hope I am not being very blunt because I thought we were/are having a healthy dicussion.

Ashish I agree to what you have written. I have already written about the things I like in GD's works e.g. her writing style and the things which I dont like abt her works. That would be enough I guess. I dont want to write what I like about/expect in lit. works on this BB. This is abt GD. The fact remains that she writes only on a subject on nothing different except a few articles.

Also , the posts before this post are fulfulling most of requisites of good posts . Still , has anybody tried to post actual work by Gauri deshpande ? NO - so , it can be done by any of us . Milind , one more point I have quoted that minimal level etc .... I does not mean that u should read all the books of GD etc. I just mean that remarks should not be done very casually . The very example of such is ur statement - What a confusing post ? after reading my post !! This line is typical GD type line , nahi ? LOL

beti, I am just a fan of GD, but I think you are a passionate lover of her ! I request you all that while writting in Marathi, as far as possible please use devenagari font. Because it is very difficult to read Marathi which is written in english. And you can not understand fully what a writter wants to say. beti, it took more than 20 minutes to read your 25-30 lines for me. I hope everybody will take it in correct sense. AaiNa malaa kLlao kI malaa ka AavaDt naaih to ´ Beti, I did not say that she is unique. there are others who write factual stuff. The good thing about GD is that she handles topics not handled by others. If someone asks me to catagorize literature in three zones based on the ongoing discussion, I would do it as follows: (1)People who write differently on uncommon topics (e.g. Narayan Dharap) (2) People who write differently on common topics, or typically on uncommon topics (GD) (3) people who write typical stuff on common topics (most people do not find them worth discussing). Of course there are gradations, and there are personal biases. So when I say that I do not like her writing, I do not mean that she writes badly. I really mean that that is not what I would rather spend time in reading.
