मी निकॉनच D40X with Double Zoom AF-S DX Zoom Nikkor ED 18-55mm F3.5-5.6G II, AF-S DX VR Zoom Nikkor ED 55-200mm F4-5.6G(IF) घ्यायचा विचार करत आहे. यात IS नाहीये तर घ्यावा का? का त्याच रेंजमधला दुसरा कुठला घ्यावा?

The first sonkusum looks good.
to give a very frank opinion, these images are not probably as good as what i have seen from you in the past. The second sonkusum has a background with hot spots which is distracting.

I hope you take this comment as a compliment :-). Expectations rise as you exhibit better and better work!

kandapohe,
the combo is quite good. I also got 18-70 with my D80 and is a similar lens. you can see the
image here made with the combo. D40x is also a good camera; so good that you can use it as a point and shoot and get good enough images most of the time (80% of the situations atleast).

got couple of e-mails so to clarify: D40x like any other newer camera (400D or Pentax/Sony SLRs) does an excellent job of 'point and shoot' camera and takes out guess work in exposure setting and some other technical aspects. This is true of most of the situations. When light is magical (which is often desired in nature photography) and good use of artificial light is involved - there is no substitute for sound technique.

प्रशांत / अभि D 40, 70, 80 वापरुन रात्री किंवा अंधारात फोटो काढताना काय काळजी घ्यावी?

though the camera is on night mode, if there is any light, खुप हललेली image येते. tripod वरुन चांगले फोटो येतात, but incase if you dont have time to put it on tripod or not carrying one तेव्हा काय करावे.

i tried shooting at the same location same time with D 70 and EOS XTi, without tripod, and the diff is clearly visible.
all night mode EOS XTi images have this orange shade, which doesnt look good, however you get unshaken image, which Mr. D cannot produce without tripod.

can any setting resolve this?

e.g.
with tripod
without tripod

also it seems there is some problem with XTi. humans in the images produced by XTi doesnt have any curves. the images look flat, मराठीत चपट्या चेहर्‍याची लोक दिसतात, can this be fixed?

Maanus,
I personally use manual mode (a hand held meter for my exposures and white-balance cards whenever possible). The orange cast you are seeing is because camera (it does not matter which) is trying to guess the K-temperature and setting a wrong white balance.
You can correct this later in GIMP or Photoshop but I prefer to get it right when I click the shutter. For the times when I have to make
snap shots I use A70 (3mp, made in 2002) and it does a near excellent job on 'auto' modes.

I'll recommend to start using manual mode and make mistakes. Otherwise; why take that SLR with you at all? Small digi-cams give you almost similar images, cost less, weigh less, and look cooler. :-) (example images)

This is not necessarily XTi or D70 or XYZ camera characteristics. It could be the lens or something else; can't say without looking at the image. I took 350D (XT) with me to Dolomites as a backup and used it for all the images you see
here and here;
I used 17-40L, 24-105IS, and 70-200L for these images. Sometimes I borrowed 10-22 from my partner.

Otherwise; why take that SLR >>>>

I was expecting this :-)
yeah I am learning those manual settings, but i guess it'll take time to improve.

I tried XTi with 17-40L, found shutter is easy to release on D70, XTi it takes some time.

There were few dots on my recent images, I thought of sending it to nikkon to clean the censor, but later on I found this easy way to clean the censor

1. remove lens
2. hold camera facing down
3. take some small pump, like one we used to use for filling ink in ink pen
4. blow some air

done, clean images again.
