US and international law states that a formal approval must be taken before publishing your images in any media, irrespective of interest (commercial or anything else). In case of friends and other people you know, this normally does not happen. In Europe (and US) at least photographing on the street without permission may exasperate people. While publishing
this in a local newspaper I had to find these students in Göttingen and ask for permission (they were more than happy). To make images though often all you need is a smile and show camera for approval.

As is often a case many photographer shoot people in india and other third world countries as a reportage or hobby and publish them. 99% of them do not make money and end up as memories. However there have also been cases where the photographed has benefited as much
and vice versa

prashant congratulations on new D80 :-)

Prashant/Abhijit, do you embed color profile in your photographs when you save them for web? if you do, how to do that and which profile should be used.

I am guessing sRGB is good.

I use Photoshop / Lightroom on mac os x, I have also configured those application to use sRGB profile and not the camera (D70) or monitor (LCD) profile. but for some reasons the photographs looks different on mac (very good color) and on windows (dull white).

do you know how to fix this.

Maanuns,
Yes, it is important to convert the image to sRGB (which is a generic profile, good for most web-browsers).

I do not recommend using sRGB in the editor really (photoshop/lightroom etc). I personally use ProphotoRGB but ADOBE RGB (free) is also good enough. Here are couple of articles that are in the pipeline which you may want to
read and 2.

ciao

D80...well it is a long story why I chnaged from EOS to Nikon.
The reason images look different on Mac/windows is 'coz of gamma is different.

Manus,
Photographychya technicalities madhye me ekdam "Aurangzeb" aahe:-) TaripaN jee mahiti wachliy tee sangto.

sRGB is good for webwork..universally accepted profile. Adobe RGB gives better colors though. If you want to submit images to National geographic, they accept only Adobe RGB images.

Well! It is better to use the same color profile in camera as well as in photo editor.

U see diff colors in mac/windows. as prashant mentioned, that is b'coz of gamma difference.

adobe gamma adjustment in pc/mac is not so truthful, so professionals use hardware calibraters. They are accurate in calibration.

Please confirm the above-mentioned with Prashant.

I use Gretag tools
http://www.xrite.com/top_Products.aspx which I find the best investment. I have saved more in inksfor my Epson R1800/2200 and Hahnemühle papers than paid for.

However, for hobby-level I find adobe gamma to do a fine job. If you are going to print yourself, help yourself, run to a store nearby and get calibration tolls.

by the way, I've been dreaming of iMac for a long time but it is at this point of time out of reach for me due to cost consideration; envy you.
And the 2nd link should read this : http://www.prashanteju.de/raw.html

If you are using Adobe products, it comes with Knoll Gamma Corrector control panel, set it to 2.2
That should help, if not let me know.

I'm traveling with laptop so I can check maayboli often. :-)

by the way, I've been dreaming of iMac yes i know :-). I read your blog (humm cant find that link now). Steve should reduce the cost now, he has earned a lot recently.

Prints are coming well. instead of buying some x printer I generally use Target shop, they have nice printers and charge less. If ISO is more than 250, prints come really well.

I dont know what gamma stuff is, I'll have to study that. thanks for the links.

It actually is not about the cost of iMac as such (which is quite expensive though) but the cost of other tools I have invested in like Adobe photoshop, I do not want to pay $$$s to adobe for cross platform version or completely new version of photoshop.
I can better spend that money on a trip to some national park, fall is around the corner. :-)

oh as the user base is growing, mac users have also started to follow windows path to obtain s/w. i guess you know what i mean. however as you are professional or company you may not be able to follow that path.

btw nice paintings.
