Dear All,
Do you know that there is also an expiry date for LPG cylinders.
Expired Cylinder are not safe for use and may cause accidents.
In this regard please be cautious at the time of accepting any LPG cylinder from the vendor.
Here is how we can check the expiry of LPG cylinders - On the stem of the cylinder the expiry date is coded alpha numerically as A or B or C or D and some two digit number following this. e.g. D06.
The alphabets stand for quarters -
A for march Qtr, B - June Qtr, C - Sept Qtr and D - December Qtr.
The digits stand for the year till it is valid.
Hence D06 would mean December qtr of 2006.

Namste !
Is there any official link regarding this on the hindustan petroleum's website ? I could not find any information regarding this.
I received a cylinder today and I tried to ask the delivery boy, he was not aware of. I called the dealer he also did not know. but he said the company cannot send the cylinders which are have crossed the expiry date and the cylinder i have received today has code C03 !! according to the information by Sanjeev it is already expired.
Where can we find official information regarding this ?

Sanjeev, Do you know this for sure ? I can't find a single proof on the internet and hence, I think that this should not considered as a fact.
The information I could find says that there is 10 years' time before a cylinder should be retested and there is no real expiry.

Every equipment has a life span. The LPG cylinders are pressure tested at
regular interval.These are determined by age of the cylinder.
In addition to this the cylinders are tested everytime before filling. They
undergo heavy safety norms. Hence, usually unless the cylinders are misused
or carelessly handled, they are very safe.
The digits you mention are usually the manufacturing details year, serial
no. etc. They are certainly not related with expiry date.
Are you from petroleum industry.?

As I had mentioned earlier, I had received a cylinder recently which had the code as "C03". As per the information given in the mail, the cylinder was supposed to be crossed the expiry date. So I called up the dealer and enquired about it. He told me that there is no such code or expiry date.
I tried to search on the websites of Hindustan petroleum and Bharat gas regarding information regarding the expiry date. I found no information on any of the sites. So I mailed my enquiry to the customer care of Hindustan Petroleum. They responded to my mail and told me that the code is NOT the expiry date but the DUE DATE for testing the cylinder.
Also, they have sent a new cylinder with a longer due date and took back the cylinder marked "C03".
I hope you would also be careful and educate everyone at your home regarding the same.

Following is further information that I have received in response to my queries. You may go through if you are interested to know more details about the security measures taken at their end:
1. Is there any Expiry date of LPG Cylinders ?
New LPG Cylinders procured by PSU Oil companies are taken up for First Mandatory testing after 7 yrs of Manufacture. Month and year of manufacture is punched on one of the stay plate of the Valve Protection ring of the cylinder. Due date of testing is also stencilled on the inner side of one of the stay plate (e.g. A 05 which means the cylinder is due for testing in the first quarter of 2005). Subsequently the cylinders are tested after every 5 years. Mandatory Testing involves various stages like Visual Inspection, Internal cleaning, Hydrostatic test at 25Kg/cm2, Pneumatic testing at 12Kg/cm2, Painting of cylinders. New test date due is again stencilled on the inner side of one of the stay plate.
Cylinders failing in acceptance criteria of various stages as mentioned above will be rejected and not taken up for filling LPG.
2. If yes what happens if the cylinder having exceeded the expiry date is used ?
This is a safety hazard. Such cylinders should not be used and the same to be returned to the LPG distributor.

HOW TO DETECT A 2-WAY MIRROR When we visit toilets, bathrooms, hotelrooms,

how many of you know for sure that the seemingly ordinary mirror hanging
on the wall is a real mirror, or
actually a 2-way mirror i.e., they can see you, but you cant see them.
There have been many cases of
people installing 2-way mirrors in female changing rooms or bathroom or

positively identify the surface by just looking at it. So, how do we
determine with any amount of certainty
what type of mirror we are looking at?
CONDUCT THIS SIMPLE TEST: Place the tip of your fingernail against the
reflective surface and if there
is a GAP between your fingernail and the image of the nail, then it is a
GENUINE mirror. However, if your
fingernail DIRECTLY TOUCHES the image of your nail, then BEWARE, IT IS A
2-WAY MIRROR! (there is someone

about mirror, when we were in school here(usa), we used to stick on the mirros in hostels rest rooms to make every girl aware. it is good info though. specially in florida, a small group of motel manager was sued as mirror was two way and his room was next to the restroom few years back and thats how it came out that one should verify mirrors.
