Seriously, what can a common man do to improve the worsening road situation? I'm really feeling helpless & totally frustrated here. The stoic Punekar has just taken everything in his stride (i.e. after manouvering the khadda in between steps)& going with 'chalata hai' attitude.

see these guys(mahapalika of pune) should have plan before monsson reason and fro october end to review those roads and plan accordingly the work on the roads.
Not during monsoon or just few days before monsson and scream that sufficient time or planning is not possible and common man has to live with that.
here in US too palces where snow is heavy, roads are not good but I guess they do take care of few free ways(yes, few, not internal residential roads) and we manage to drive on them.

I’m a member of Better Roads yahoo-group, a group formed to focus on the sad plight of roads in Pune & thereby get the concerned authorities work on it.
A tough task indeed, unless we all righteous citizens gather together & raise our voice collectively on the right forum!

Many times I feel our Puneri junta is very tolerant ("Soshik" is the right Marathi word) & so is being taken for a (literally rough) ride! Had such conditions prevailed in Delhi/Mumbai/Nagpur even for a month, there would have been violent outbursts.

गेल्या वर्षी जी परिस्थिति होती, यावेळेला त्यहीपेक्षा भयंकर आहे.
छोटे मोठे असंख अपघात घडतायत. लांबच लांब traffic jam च्य रांगा लागतायत.
एकिकडे Microsoft, GM सारख्या कंपन्या पुण्यात येतायत अशा बातम्या तर दुसरी कडे ही परिस्थिति.
हिंजवडी IT park सहव्या फेज पर्यंअत वाढवणार आहेत असेही ऐकले.
वेगाने वाढणार्या लोकसंखेच्या दृष्टिने infrastructure planning मात्र कुठेच दिसत नाही.
PMC चा सर्वच पातळ्यांवर जाहीर निशेध व्ह्ययला हवा. Industry ने देखिल civic bodies वर दबाव आणणे आवश्यक आहे

किमान I.T. professionals नी तरी काहीतरी आवाज उठवणे अत्यावश्यक आहे. we always talk in terms of "man hours" when we sit for project planning . आणि असे कित्येक man hours नुसते रस्त्यावर वाया जातायत!
आपण पुढीलप्रमाणे करु शकतो:
चक्री उपोषणासारख एकेकाने अर्धा दिवस सुट्टी घेऊन रोज डाॅ. करीरांच्या कार्यालयात जायच. जस जशी माहीती मिळेल तस तस ह्याच्या मुळाशी जाण्याचा प्रयत्न करायचा. हे केवळ नैमित्तिक नाही तर असा कायमस्वरुपी दबाव गट जो infrastructure problems कडे सक्रिय लक्ष घालेल तयार झाला पाहीजे.

छोटे मोठे असंख अपघात घडतायत.
काहीतरीच काय? पुणे महानगरपालिकेच्या अहवालात चक्क statistics दिले आहे की या वर्षी अपघात कमी झाले नि कमी माणसे मेली!
शिवाय महाराष्ट्रात कुठेहि एका गटाने काही करायचे ठरवले तर त्याला दुसरे विरोध करणार! तुम्ही सर्वांनी रहदारी रोको अशी निदर्शने केली तर PMC म्हणेल, त्या दिवशी अपघात खूपच कमी झाले तेंव्हा रोज असेच करावे!
आरक्षणाविरुद्ध निदर्शने केली तर त्यांच्यावर लाठीमार करून त्यांना हाकलून दिले. पुढे काय झाले?

Most of us unfortunates (who are working out of Pune) have to bear the brunt of driving on whatever is left of the road, or whatever is semblance of road! No exaggeration, but most of the roads remind one of dirt-track! And, as if to rub salt on the wound, the self-proclaimed CEO of city announces that there are lesser potholes than last year!! The guardian minister does nothing but keeps smiling through innumerable posters hung in every nook and corner of Pune! And about the PMC commissioner: The lesser said, the better!
If nothing concrete (pun intended) is done to improvise the road conditions, this vibrant city, a rich hub of IT/BPO/Biotech/Automobile companies, can soon be a dying city!
To escalate the issue, my friend Vivek Velankar, a social activist, has filed an on-line petition requesting Sonia Gandhi to intervene.
We are targeting 10,000 signatures by end of Sunday.
