'About Long Term Investing' - Nice insight about long term investment goals....

Hello all,
I am thinking of investing few of my left over pennies in some form of investment. I ventured into this stocks issues before but I don't have enough time and knowledge to keep a tap on market moves. In such scenario, which form of investment is good?

Mutual funds could be better option but I want to do it independent of anybody's help in India and I don't have any trading accounts so it is difficult to work out in this scenario.
I thought of FCNR as it keeps my money in foreign currency fixed for certain amount of time, but again which currency is most stable (GBP and Euro in my opinion, please correct if I am wrong) but the interest rates are low (and I think thats fair taking into account the time and knowledge I have for other more return investment plans)

Any wise method that this one?

Many thanks

Bee, your idea is very true but in most of the cases, I have to take help from my parents and I don't want to bother them. In such scenario, I could not find any other option than FCNR and that is the only reason, I am pushing for it but other options are always welcome.

Prasad,

Now you can buy Mutual funds online ( no need on Online trading a/c). Try this site

www.timesofmoney.com/mf/jsp/home.jsp?productid=mutual_funds
times of mone is really good and its online without any bank a/c and demat a/c
You can try citibank (for this you have to have a NRI a/c).

Online mutual fund and regular mutual fund madhye kahich farak nahi except the method of payment is online..
so the crux is to select the fund..
Always go for trusted names atleast for 60% of the pie..rest can be invested in others..

NRI lokanni baherun direct shares trading etc. karat basanyapeksha mutual funds ch vaparaave...tyamule risk nakki ch kami hote..

futures nd options ha ek ajun bara paryay...pan tyasathi roj cha vel dyayla hava analysis sathi..

kON MHANTO KI MAAGE DISCUSS ZALELE MARG OUTDATED AHET??
TECH AJUN HI VALID ANI CHANGLE AHET..

Thanks everyone for generous inputs.
Online transactions are indeed good options but I don't have really good experience of Indian banks with this online stuff. They are still pretty much in this babugiri and I don't have time to run after them for my few pennies and that is the only reason, I was thinking of most secure option.
I seriously got into this mutual funds about 6 months ago with a friend of mine who was ready to take care of all my funds and roam them around along with his but now he himself is in the US and I don't want to bother his father so I am stuck.
Since I am not planning to go to India for another year, I don't want Swedish government to suck up the added tax on my savings.

I will look into Kedar's option of timesofmoney and check how to work it out with that one

Namaste people,

I read some question about Kisan vikas patra: NRI CANNOT invest in KVP. Best bet is buy it in your father/mothers name and have them nominate you.

I have a question about Pune area:
How is Baner Road/Baner area for settling down.(Even if one does not have job in IT park?). We want to go back and settle in Pune. My daughter will be up for school in next 2 yrs. So how is that area from that point of view?

Please state positives as well as negatives.

Thanks in advance

Yogibear

Thank u for reading my queries

My investment goal is to invest my left over pennies for short or long term so
that I can get benifits out of my investment in some financial form only.

Residency is yet to decide India or USA but probably India as per todays's choice.

I have no one in India who will take care of land or flat etc so I do not think it will be proper option for me n in my few pennies it not possible even. Pls tell me wht do u think.
