Hello,

I was hoping you all can help me evaluate schools in Pune (in the Prabhat road, Kothrud, Shivaji nagar, Aundh, etc areas).

I am trying to get admission for my son for KG and researching the good/bad of schools in above areas.

I will appreciate highly if you can provide me any information especially, the Symbiosis school (Prabhat rd), Vikhe Patil school (s. nagar), Bharatiya vidya bhavan.

1. School name
2. How is the school for academics
3. How is the school for extra curricular
4. Are all students provided opportunities to explore and try out different things such as games, music, elocution, drama, etc
5. How are the teachers
6. How is the principal
7. How is the access to the teaching staff
8. Does the school focus on all round development.
9. Does the school have good facilities: library, airy rooms, playground, etc
10. What is the number of students per class
11. Any additional/other info.

If I get enough info, I will post summary for everybody.

Thanks a lot.

Sincerely
Deep

Hello Deep, I read your profile and it says you live in the US. Do you have plans of going back to India ? If so, is it for your son's sake (education, sankaar etc etc). The reason I ask is because I could be in a similar boat too. My son is 2 yrs old and I still haven't been able to decide whether I want to bring him up in the US or India. What made you decide to go back to India ? I too would like to go back, but the thought of giving up the $ earnings is too distressing... it seems too big a sacrifice at this point.Any thoughts will be welcome.

so is Loyolas school for boys. I went to St.Joseph's which was a girls school in the same area. Loyolas provide many extra cirricular activities like swimming, horse riding, karate etc (at least in those days)... dunno know what the situation is now!

Hi Swati,

Yes, I am planning to move back to India from US next year. There is a website called www.return2india.com which has a dilemma forum. 95% of posts are useless but once in a while if you look for postings from those gone back you will find them interesting (Look for those from dolphinOne, r2hyd, etc).

Anyway, if you want to know my personal opinion, the first and foremost reason for going needs to be "You", not your kids, parents, etc. At the outset let me say that I don't want to make this into a "Why to r2i forum" since we can take that discussion to the above website. Also, really here I was looking for info on schools in Pune since I am not from Pune but Mumbai.

I will pen some of my thoughts that might be useful to you. Feel free to :
1. I have been here for several years now but have never settled here mentally. No - buying a house, 2 cars, 2 jobs and parties so that kids can socialize is not called settling by my definition.
2. My own personal, selfish reason is to move along on the spiritual front. In addition though I have visited many places in the US I have not done so in India and concluded that it is not possible to do so on the once in 2 year trips.
3. Yes, kids. I feel that the formative years (age 6-16) need to be spent in India where they need to get an education on the people, language and culture. If a kid is to turn out bad, there are equal chances in US or India.
4. Parents, and others who are now growing older also have rights on me for which I need to provide them the opportunity to exercise them!
5. Of course, there are other things that are in the remaining 20% . I gave above the things that constitute the 80%.

Yes, some money is required. How much is enough is a personal matter. But to solve the equation on r2i, one needs to assign it a weight (say 49%) but cannot give it more than that as it will veto all other weights. This is a separate discussion.

Enjoy,

If you want to discuss with me more, feel free to send mail at my_e_identity@yahoo.com

It's great that Storvi and Swati found themselves to be from the same school, but focus on my main topic. That is helping me zero in on a school in the Shivaji nagar, Kothrud, Prabhat area.

Swati: I was trying to get a co-ed school. And hence had striken off Loyola/St Joseph, etc. Also, my experience with my niece being in a convent was that it is too strict for kids. She would fear getting there late etc. So I had also striked off convents. Maybe I can reconsider if you folks tell me some fantastic things about them.

With respect to Abhinav, I visited the school in June and was not even allowed to enter the building, let alone talk to a teacher. There were just too many kids in too small a place (I went around school closing time and it was a mess). That's why Abhinav though one of the best fell off my list. If teachers and staff can't show respect I wonder if they can teach kids to do that.

How is New Millenium (myshala.com). They have a fantastic website. Only thing against it is that it's in Karve nagar and the timings are 8:30 to 5:30. That seems too much for kids to be in school - same issue with the Gurukul school which is also good.

Any more thoughts on various school - O Pune'ites?

Thanks

Deep

What kind of student-teacher ratio do these schools mentioned above have? Are there any specific schools in Pune that have 20-30 student per class in primary? Thx
