Using Iwrite32
Quoted from documentation..
1.) Execute IWrite32.exe. You will be prompted to choose a map file. Choose an existing map file or create one and then choose it.
Gondya> Choose Shusha map file that accompanies the software.
2.) Type your name in the editor and press F4.
Gondya> Type any Itrans text instead of your name. Your name is probably not compatible with Itrans. "Gondya" in Itrans is written as "gondyaa". "Swaroop Sampat" is written as "svarUp sa.npat", etc.
Gondya> Or select "convert" from the Edit menu.
Gondya> It is a good idea to "restore" the editor window so that you can see both Itrans and Shusha output in two windows.
3.) You will see some strange characters on a new window. Don't worry, it's very normal. Select the entire text and set the correct font (using Edit - Select font ... menu option). You should see your name, probably misspelled. If it is misspelled, you will have to close the window by pressing Ctrl+F4, retype your name as per the map file you are using and convert again using F4.
Gondya> Select font Shivaji01. It is the most readable in the Shusha family.

I am trying to download marathi fonts .I unzipped the files ,stored into temo folder then opened the fonts folder but .. in the file menu there is no option like 'install new fonts' could you help me?

try to do following..after unzipping
click on start
then click on settings
click on Control panel icon
then click on fonts icon
go to file
select install new fonts
select and double click on the drive in which u have saved ur font file (usually unzipped,or temp directory).
select ur font file
then select all
hit ok
click on reload button in netscape or explorer
done

You may try this. Open the fonts folder as you have done earlier. Open the folder where you have extracted the fonts from zipped file. Then copy those fonts and paste them in fonts folder. And then reload the page of netscape ...
But as per my knowledge "Install new fonts" menu should be present in the File menubar ...

Vidya, the step you have skipped (or rather was not prompted correctlly) is to double-click the icon of the fonts in the control panel.
The File menu of the Fonts folder WILL have the install new fonts option.
if nothing works, simply
copy all the *.ttf files into
C:\windows\fonts directory
and restart the PC
this will definitely work.

I don't have no idea about how java works or how ttf file works.
i have one question regarding marathi writing.
Is it possible to save shusha.ttf file on a site
and write in marathi using that file.
I tried for this one, but didn't work. Is my funda right?
i saved shusha.ttf file on my website. after this, I wrote some stuff in netsacpe browser using shusha font. In notepad, i changed the font & replaced by http://...../shusha.
it was not working. Can you tell me why this is not working?

Danand,
The font also needs to be installed on the pc of the user who is browsing the page. So also u have to write the HTML page using the shusha font. Saving the font on the website does not help.
Or u can go to my site directly and view the source (http://members.xoom.com/gharkul/).

People using unix can also see maayboli and other sites using marathi fonts. Download unix fonts from
http://www.rasik.com/fonts/download.html
You do not need root permissions.

writing devanaagari on emacs..

Emacs supports devanagari very well now. You can type, read and print
devanagari documents using familiar emacs commands.
The best way for emacs users to get devanagari support is to upgrade
to emacs 20.4 (previous versions had some nasty bugs in devanagari
support).
You can get emacs from www.gnu.org. emacs 20.4 comes with built-in
devanagari support. You need to install the following packages:
- emacs 20.4 (ftp://ftp.cs.unm.edu/mirrors/gnu/emacs/emacs-20.4.tar.gz)
- leim 20.4 (ftp://ftp.cs.unm.edu/mirrors/gnu/emacs/leim-20.4.tar.gz)
- intlfonts1.1 (ftp://ftp.cs.unm.edu/mirrors/gnu/intlfonts/intlfonts-1.1.tar.gz)
(I have given the URL of the place I downloaded it from, you may have
a closer mirror, check www.gnu.org)
Follow the INSTALL instructions in each package for details on how to
install.
After installing the new emacs and the new fonts, you can test the
devanagari support by doing the following:
0. Launch emacs
1. On the menu bar, select the MULE option, then the Set Font/Fontset
2. Select "Fontset" and then "standard: 16 dot medium"
3. Select the MULE option, then "Show script examples"
This should bring up a screen with all the supported languages. You
should see Hindi, followed by "namaste, namaskaar" in devanagari. If
you see it, your installation and fonts installation was correct. If
not, you need to fix it. If you see squares instead of devanagari,
your fonts are incorrectly installed. IF you do not see a "MULE"
option on your menu bar, your emacs or leim installation was
incorrect.
To enter in Devanagari mode, do the following:
0. Open some temporary empty file
1. On the menu bar, under MULE, use "set language environment", under
Indian, you will see devanagari
2. Select Devanagari
3. Then under MULE, choose select input method
4. It will prompt you for the input method, default will be devanagari-itrans
5. Select devanagari-itrans
6. You should see "DEVId" in the emacs mode line.
7. Start typing normal itrans text, and watch it convert it to devanagari!
8. Use the menu bar "MULE->Toggle Input method" to return to ENglish mode.
You can use this to freely intersperse devanagari with English.

Indian language documents was never this easy.
Indian language documents look beautiful, when written and read
in Indian fonts!

It is far easier than you always thought. Just follow a couple
of steps and you get your own HTML document in Indian font -
that too your favourite font!!
You can save it to your disk with ....html extension, so that,
later you can edit it in your editor, add other features to it,
get it printed, or send it your friends as email attachments. You
can open it in MSWord and make a .doc (or other format) out of it.

I have currently supported 4 different fonts. I can easily support
other fonts on popular demand.
It takes itrans like (phonetic) input - only easier. (it supports
oo, uu, U for dIrgha u or ee, ii, I for dIrgha i etc.). Spelling of
rafar (or ref) is exactly as you say it. (You need to write durgaa
(or durgA) instead of dugaa.r or any other styles, though it still
supports those styles if you prefer.)
See all the styles it supports. If you wish to see any thing new
added, tell me.
You can easily embed English words inside indian language - see
example given there.
Your readers will get the link for the required font, incase they
don't have it already.
I have given some examples for the beginners. You can use them for
experimentation and for getting a feel of the utility.

With response to users' suggestions, I have
made the following enhancements in the utility
at:

1. Named this utility as "dishaa" which stands for
"direct indian script html authoring application"
2. Added support for the following fonts:
xdvng,
Sanskrit 98,
Subak ( As in Sakal (http://www.eSakal.com ) ),
Maha ( As in Maha. Times ( http://www.maharashtratimes.com ) )
3. Added Sanskrit example ( thanks to jaguar site)
View this example with DV-TTsurekh, sanskrit 98, xdvng
and Subak and compare. (other fonts have one or more
limitations when used for Sanskrit. Of course you
see this for yourself.)
4. Changed the look and feel. (one more step towards
email utility)
5. Reduced size of the initial page for fast loading.
6. Now example sare "air droped" to your machine. This way
I can add more examples, without changing the size of
initial page.
7. Fixed some minor transliteration bugs.
Visit the site to try this utility, and send me your comments,
suggessions, problems, bugs ... and yes, some interesting
examples of your creations, for others to see.
I shall be surprised if you say that there are now problems

But When I click on font Name to install it . I just get a blank page .
2.You did not mention How to mix English-Marathi text . So Please give some help about formatting the mail. (Although One can easily guess it from Example text. <anything>. )
3. Is it possible to get HTML view simultaneously as we type? [Like e-patra ] .
It will help to minimize the drafting time.
