Ajay: Few pointers that I felt were amazing in Vista (Ultimate)... 1. Clean install was exceptionally fast compared to Win XP/2000 2. Look and feel is very elegant and professional 3. It does take some time to get used to the new desktop as the way we use to access things have changed a bit although keyboard shortcuts do work I will post more comments as I get used to Vista, still in discovery phase... Good luck!

One of the most important decision you have to make for laptop is screen size. The bigger the screen size, more closer to desktop experience but more heavy. If you need to carry the laptop to many places weight will be important to you. If it is going to sit at one place as a replacement for desktop then 17 inches will give you better experience. For windows VISA make sure it has atleast 1 GB of RAM. That too if 1GB is better instead of 2X512. So if you want to add more just 1 GB additional will do. Otherwise if you have 512X2 then you will need to buy 2X1GB and discard existing 512 memory. Goto control panel-system and maintenance->Check your computers windows experince score. I personally wouldn't buy a PC with a score less than 3. (max is 5) Otherwise future software programs requiring 3 level won't run on PC.

screen size 15 will do ....... sony, IBM,DEll what you will suggest ????

sony - too expensive and I heard recently they had some issue. IBM - not sure if they have same quality under Lenovo ownership. Otherwise T-80 are good Dell - they are cheap but I don't like their quality, customer support. my suggestion : HP or Toshiba

I have toshiba and using it for past 4 yrs. works very well. toshiba normally offers lot of more things in the same price.
|
I have a toshiba, and it shuts off everytime it heats up (works for 2 hrs in Summer). It's not a company but the MODEL(or Series) that you are using. I had similar problems with my Prev. DELL.. Not heating up, but use to shut-down without any reason.

Over a period dust accumulates on the fan grid which deminishes its capability to cool CPU resulting in PC shutdown. On our Toshiba laptop, I used forced air from blower for few minutes (where the fan is located in the back) and then used vaccum alternatively 2-3 times. Now it behaves much better. The fan used to get completely stuck due to dust and now it is functioning fine. The laptop also does not shutdown as it used to because now fan is doing its job to cool CPU.

तोशिबा आणि IBM T-series ! SONY too is a good option, but too costly!
|
nobody is talking about battery back up time and battery life! I think exhausted battery is the biggest headache in laptops. it costs several thousand Rupees. upto 15000Rs to replace the battery.
|
Late on this subject but .. Robin has a valid point. Longer battery life is must. By now I used IBM, Dell, Toshiba and Sony. I own Toshiba and Sony. Sony - worst battery life, it gets hot after couple hours. But never crashed in last 3 1/2 years, vary good keyboard. I also didnt liked the Sound coming out of my Sony (FRV37). But overall multimedia exp. is good. Toshiba - Best disply, Never crashed, relatively longer battery life, overall a very happy experiance , work as well as fun. It was looking so good that my brother took away this one from me. (but he is very happy then his HP). Dell : Using for last 1 1/2 year. Personly I hate cheap things so I was against dell. But my company gave me this one. D610. Very long battery life, didnt liked the keyboard arrangemnt but its a good laptop. I must say I started liking Dell now. Sound is loud and clear, good battery life. IBM - used T40 for 4 years now. ( P3 and centrino). I loved this guys for work. but really not good for multimedia exp. Battery life is the best amoung all my laptops.
