Dear fellow IITians,
You might have read about the Press reports about my
suspension from PICT for supporting the student's just
demands for the refund of their fees.
I am enclosing several documents which relate to this
issue.
If you read the Jahagirdar Report carefully, it
clearly stipulates that PICT cannot charge more than
39000 for IT and 40000 for CE/ETDC. I am enclosing a
receipt which shows that people are paying Rs 65,500
(for direct entrants from Diploma this year), for
regular entry last year students have paid Rs 60,000
and this year the SE students are paying Rs 53,500.
The current FE students have also been charged Rs
5,000 in the name of other fees. There are 300
students in FE, and 400 students in SE. According to
my calculation, PICT alone has taken more than Rs 3
crores from the students.
Under such circumstances I had no choice but to
support the students. And as you can see they have
suspended me for the flimsiest reasons. I have replied
to all of them in my enclosed Press Statement.
We have a recent case of a fellow IITian Satyendra
Dubey who was recently murdered for far less amount.
Not that I am afraid for my life, for all of us have
to die one day; and nothing better for a Professor to
die for the cause of students. But to avoid you the
trouble of getting together postumously, I suggest
that, if all IITians come together on this issue we
can contribute to stopping the commercialisaion of
education and the Management's fleecing of
middle-class students. There is a wrong notion that
all engineering students come from Rich class. that is
not true. I know at least 150 students from PICT that
have taken loan for their student's education.

possible. And the Faculty of IIT and Staff.
If you feel strongly about this you can send emails
protesting my suspension and asking the PICT
management to refund the illegally charged excess fees
to students.
