This car blows out the others (even its Japanese rivals) in almost all aspects of driving and owning a car. I drove a 3.5 L V6 (which probably is the same legendary engine used in the higher Maxima) which is designed to output 240 HP....very impressive performance! There are other engine options too in 2.5 litre capacity outputing 175 HP. The options are all there and this is a compltely redesigned car from the existing Altima that you see around. Sadhya bhashet sangaychey tar Camry-Accord peksha interior size madhye mothi, Camry-Accord peksha barich jyasti powerful, same fuel effieiency as Camry-Accord, much more options and standard features, excellent ride, total paisa wasool! For just 19K for a 3.5L-V6-240 HP car (per the dealership), you get a car that is (1)cheaper, (2)equally good if not better quality wise, (3)bigger in size/capacity (4) equally fuel efficient, (5)a much much better driving experience than the existing Japanese cars which have often been used as benchmarks in the auto industry. Worth a drive if you are in the market for a car. Nandya, Yesterday only I was reading an article about this somewhere. That article was saying that if the cheaper Altima is going to be so powerful and roomy, why would someone go for a expensive Maxima?? Is the car really that good?? I have few friends who have Maxima, they are really happy.. the altimas that I have seen, didn't find them that good.. offcourse they were '99/'00 Which car do you have right now?? Did you test drive any other car?? Did you try Jetta or passat? Man.. I love those cars.. well.. I like beamer and merc too but don't think I can afford them right now.. VW cars really look slik and they are affordable. Give them a shot.. -- Natya

Natya, I drive a Honda CRX-Si and a Ford Taurus right now.....If I am around till summer of 2002, I might trade in my Taurus for a Subaru WRX (always yearned for a turbo, but Saabs and Audi's are way out of my range). Maxima's are/were awesome cars under a dull exterior....my uncle owns 4 of them at this moment :-) The new Altima is a new sheep altogether....real paisa wasool....by the way they have upgraded the Maxima's too - 255HP and all the bells and whistles you could think of...there's almost no difference between a Maxima and an Infinity Q45 (?) now. Yes I have driven every car that has ever run on American roads (almost).....Really liked the Jetta with the 1.8 Turbo (which they use in Audi A4's). There are very few cars on the road with as many standard equipments as a Jetta. VW cars are a little expensive than the rest of the bunch (not exactly 'people-cars' as the name suggests) but considering they offer everything as a standard feature, for which you usually endup paying 4-5 grand more on other cars, the deal balances out. Bimmers, Mercs, Audi's, Saabs are a little out of range presently, lekin woh jindagi hi kya, jisme koi na-mumkin sapna na ho! :-)

vw cars are just ultimate, compared to toyota, honda, nissan cars. they give a real driving pleasure. they surely are not for those who just want everything related to comfort. esp. big space. they are meant for nice ride...'drivers wanted' as vw says..:)
Talk about real driving experience... drive convertibles. Rest of the stock sucks big time after that experience. SO far have tried Ford Mustang, Mazda and BMW. All rulez.. Even cheapo Mazda in spite of its tiny interior. Savya, drove conertible for fall trip in NH. Its more that chilly but still convertible rulezzzzz Zindagi ek safar ho suhana......... :o)
Asami, partially agree with you. Have been on the wheels of a Corvette, a Camaro, a VW-Cabriolet, heck even a Saab 9-3 (or 9000, can't recall)....its fun alright! (Never been in a German convertible, come to think of it). I beg to differ on "rest of the stock sucks"....ever driven the Subaru 2.5 RS or the monstrously powerful Subaru WRX? You might change your opinion :-) I live in Michigan rey! Tend to give priority to heated bottoms over open tops.... LOL
Nandya I stay in Boston. So I could understand your concern about bottom :o) But still I like to stick to my opinion. It gives some pleasure that other powerful monstors lack. Maybe its feeling of closeness to the nature here which is more appealing.
asami, by saying driving pleasure, i want to mean is the technical driving pleasure. the pickup, the feel of power, the short circle in which u can turn around, and taking curves without havin fear of slipping off the road- the road grip. otherwise, if the climate etc. to be considered, surely, convertibles are best, no matter of which co. it is. butthen, i will give a shot for motorcycle driving, by that, u really feal in the nature, rather than watching it from the shore. btw, asamya, I totally agree, ur trip to NH in convertible, must have been an ultimate exp. next time, do tell me if u are doing this again..:)
Nandya, I drive Nissan PathFinder. I wouldn't say Pickup is great but it's nice but the engine power is tremendous. Ofcourse a 260hp engine shievering under gives a diff feeling altogether... But i agree to Asami somewhat. When I was in CA, I got a chance to lay my hands on Mustang and Z3 beamer. Beamer is awesome. Didn't like Mustang that much.

Vaatsaru, '99 nantarchya Pathfinders solid ahet rey! Majhya officemadhye ekachi hoti pivli Pathfinder pan never got a chance to drive it. I am waiting for the day when I will be able to lay my hands on Honda S2000 - the smartest, smallest and sportiest car I have seen. All the points mentioned by Savyasachi apply to this little thingamagic.
Kaustubh: Sahi rey! Imagine grinding 240 HP's out of a 4 cylinder 2 litre (200 cc's smaller than a standard Camry engine)! I have heard you can rev this car well above 8000 rpms...I think tey Formula-1 cars sarkhey stroke length kami karun , high RPM engines design kartaat...hey Hondawaley kay kartil sangta yet nahi ....by the way, gaadi 35K la ahey...paisey sathvayla laag :-) By the way, Mazde RX-7 is coming back next year! Pathfinder is no doubt the best SUV in the crowd. You know what Nandya ? I was about to buy a Honda CRV before I test drove PathFinder. I was (ofcourse) new in US then but fortunately I did not take CRV. Man, that SUV (?) has Civic engine !!!!! :-) :-) aani jast off-roading la jaat nahi mi ajun. Vaatsaru: Is this your first vehicle in the US? Just curious rey, because everybody is sentimental and passionate about their first vehicle, be it a brand new Camry (which they would proudly claim to have gotten at a best possible deal during the '2000-fall-sale' or '2001-Spring sale'and would tell long winding tales of how they managed to get the 6-CD changer and a golden 'Camry' emblem on the trunk for no extra cost whatsoever), OR, be it a rusty 1987 Toyota Tercel bought for $500 from a graduating desi in a local University (who in turn had bought it from another graduating desi 3 years ago, and who in turn had done the same even 3 more years ago...so on and so forth). ~D EVERYBODY: $25K la brand new Merc coupe miltey ahey rey!! :-) Folks, check these out: http://www.carprices.com/newsletters/2001/newsletter102001_features.html http://www.edmunds.com/reviews/roadtests/firstdrive/45196/article.html

You all guys seem to be experts in cars. I too want to trade in my car and get a new camry. After reading all your comments I too want to think something other that camry or accord. You all seem to be so experienced and knowledgable in this , do guide me thru this difficult decision. Thanks
Vanita, Camry is an excellent car, and it doesnt need any expert to say that :-) What car do you wish to trade in (model, year, mileage, condition of the car, history of the car, your location-zip code)? How urgently do you want a new car? I ask because in certain cases it is better to sell off an old car yourself rather than trading it in; as well as in certain cases it is better to trade in rather than invest your time and patience in trying to sell directly. Let me know at your convenience. email me or we could discuss it on this BB with others. You may get great deals too (on the 2001 Camry's) since the 2002 Camry has just been released. I am not sure about the pricing on the 2002 Camry's but could do some research and let you know soon. The new Camry is an excellent vehicle, although nothing much has changed besides the aesthetics.
camry is just spacious. otherwise it sucks. I will say buy accord instead of camry. it has big room too. as far as trade in, always try to sell it urself, as it gives u more money than a dealer. just driving the car by putting a board of 'for sale' does the work.
Savya, arey she has already made the decision, which is not a bad one altogether. For someone who isnt a real enthusiast and needs a hassle-free car that is reliable, proven, low maintenance, high in longevity, holds good resale value, requires minimum owner interference and chugs on till the end of the world, I would say there are very little choices out there. In the mid-size family car segment we narrow down to Accord and Camry. (I would personally add the Passat, the Altima, the Mazda 626 etc. to the short list above. But then some may point out that the Passat is expensive, the Altima although a fantastic car hasnt yet matured considering this is its first year of metamorphosis, and not many buy Mazda's even if they are good cars because so little is known about them. So I doubt how many other normal buyers would consider these over and above the Camry and the Accord). Savya, it looks like the lady obviously has other influences and her own experience and judgement about the Camry, so I say let her go ahead with the Camry..... OR, Vanita, if your choice is sill open, I would suggest Autobytel.com warti hya saglya gaadyanchey ekda comparison kar. Ani epinions.com warti reviews wach. Who knows you may find something that appeals more to you in a car other than a Camry. Confuse hou nakos because there is a LOT of information out there. And even if you get confused, you can always turn to this BB for recommendations and suggestions. Right? :-)
Guys, Thanks. Do keep me updated on these issues. I really didnt care much about all these specifications all these days. I see that most of the desis do go in for accord or camry. So did I. However now I think that I should buy something different. Which are the other competitive cars to camry or accord v6 ? Does anybody of you recommend any american car ? I dont want any sports car but a comfortable car if not luxurious. I personally liked the Ford Taurus but some of my friend (indian) told me that FORD is Found on Road Dead .. so dont buy it.
Nandya This is my first vehicle in US.. so in a sense u r right. But I am in love of all my vehicles in general. I (yes, yet) have a Yamaha RX 100 (92 Model with an original Japenese Yamaha Engine) and she is still with me back there in India even if I am in US. I don't feel like selling it though many times I have to beg my friends to drive it atleast a week :-) Same with my Maruti. Fortunately, this baby is being driven by my Dad so no worries abt that. But I agree to Savya on one statement.. Camry SUCKS bigtime :-) I would prefer Accord or Nissan any day over Camry, even Corola would do :-)
as far as possible , never buy american cars. (unless u are buying a corvette..:) ) nandya, i know tila 2 nach options hote . camry kinva accord. and so i said, camry peksha accord nakkich bari. camry cha gear ratio atishay bhikar ahe ani tyamule ti nako tya velela nako te gears takte, ani mag radat khadat speed vadhto. arthat he sagle automatic transmission baddal zale. otherwise, yes, tu sangitlele sagle pts ahet. abt reliability etc. but then it is valid for accord too. vanita after all, it depends absolutely on ur budget. nothing else. jar tu V6 chya bata karat ahes, tar mi tuza budget 25 te 30 hajar ahe asa dharun chalu ka? tasa asel tar i will say jetta or passat, thodya kami spacious ahet camry or accord peksha, pan excellent cars. ani itar saglya goshti astatatachtyat. like abs, good music system etc.
Vanita: <<I see that most of the desis do go in for accord or camry. So did I. >> You just said what 98 out of 100 other desi's would! :-) Aga kititari chaan chaan gaadya ahet ithey! The BIG reason why desi's buy a new Toyota or a new Honda is for the so called resale value! Now believe me I am yet to see a single desi sell off his 97 Camry or 99 Civic (unless he is on a despo-sale after a layoff at his job)...vikaychey nahi tar resale value kay karaychiye dombal!? Camry and Accord in the V6 segment face competetion from the following popular models: Mazda 626-V6, Pontiac Grand Prix V6, Chevy Malibu-V6, Nissan Altima V6, Chrysler/Dodge Stratus, Hyundai Sonata, Mitsubishi Galant (not sure if you get a V6 here), VW Jetta VR6, VW Passat VR6, Saturn V6, Oldmobile Alero V6, so on and so forth.....remember all these cars come with V4 as well as V6 engines. If you are researching them be sure to look for the V6 specs....all the above cars compete in the mid-size V6 segment... The next segment is the full-size family sedan segment. All the cars here are V6 by default. Ford Taurus, Dodge Intrepid, Nissan Maxima, Oldsmobile Intrigue, Buick Century, Buick Regal, Mitsubishi Diamante, Mazda Millenia, Mercury Sable to name a few. Saglya V6 ahet. All are good cars. I am not mentioning any expensive luxury family cars because I dont think we are looking at them here - Lexus, Acura, Cadillac, Saab, Audi, BMW, etc etc. About Ford cars, I drive a Ford Taurus....the ugly jellybean model.... So far NO complaints. I have driven over 70K miles in 3 yrs on it and have had nothing worth mentioning except a few dealership issues (which have nothing to do with the car as such). The new Taurus series is awesome (especially the SES and SEL models) and with their adjustable pedals feature which is a big plus for ladies (who tend to be shorter in height).

Savya 25-30000la Jetta ? are tyapeksha ajoon 1-2 ajoon ghaloon luxary cars gehta yeil. Agadich ahi nahi tar Jag ahech 29chi. Pun evadhi mahag Jetta ghyayacha option too much vatato.
