Rangy: yeah u r absolutely right, they need to have visa but that can be obtained over here too, Isnt it? U can always apply for visitor visa for canada from here, its should be a days work.....!!!

from what I have heard, if anyone is here on b2 ( tourist) visa, and if they apply for canadian visa from here, it gets rejected on the grounds that they should have obtained it from their originating country. I do not know about mexico.
but if you are here on h1/h4/f1/l1 visas then, you will get canadian visa. This exclusion is only for tourist visa holders. I do not know if it a rule, but I know many such cases

Yogi, that will be one option. but again the canadian consulate is in Delhi.
Anyway, looks like under the propsed rules, it WILL be possible to extend the visa, but it will be stricter. They said you should have some medical reasons (e.g. pending surgery in US) or business matters to get an extension, both of which will not apply in many visiting parents cases. So getting the extension is difficult though not impossible.
I think we all should exchange any experiences, or questions asked at the immigration port in recent days etc. If the visiting parents are able to convince the immigration officer at the entry port that they do need stay longer, they are supposed to get I-94 for a longer term. So it will be nice to know pointers on how to convince / to dos /not to dos etc.

When my in-laws filed for B2 visa at Pune extension center, the lady
there cryptically asked them, "Why don't you wait for 4 more months,
you'll be waived to appear for the interview".(my father-in-law
completes 55 yrs in August). Still, they filed and there visa was
promptly rejected last week at Mumbai consulate.
Reason: "You're potential immigrants!". (Both of them are working and
had taken letters from their employers, and other docs to support their
bindings in India. The reason given was both of their children are in
US. How is that?!)
The officer didn't bother, neither to look at any supporting docs, nor
to accept any explanation. When they went to the bank to get the refund
for the DDs, the bank employee told that there were 160+ B-2 rejections
yesterday! (because that many people came to get back their money!)
Common-sense now says to wait at least 4 months or till the situation
improves. Isn't it true that being rejected 2nd time practically bars
you from re-applying for 2 years?

My experience was different.
My in-laws , both have completed 55 years of age. Both got 10 years multiple entry Visa in April first week.
But One of my friends' mom was rejected visa on the same grounds that both of her children are in USa even though she works in India.(she is not 55 yet) And job in India is not a good enough reason for consulate officers it seems.
ANd for senior citizens (over 55)it seems to be very easy to get visa.

varil message boards pahile, from the discussions over there , it is totally unpredictable who will get a 1 month stamp on I-94 and who will get 6 months.
It's all the matter of luck now...

maaze in laws yet aahet 26th la. Visa chee limit aahe 1 year ata baghuyaat 6 months che I-95 detaat ka. Amhee ticket tar 6 months che kadhle aahe.
