Radar Dectector is a device, which beeps or Alerts you when the Police are using Radar to track car speed in the vicinity. That way you can know in advance and slow down if necessary.

Deepstambh, another reason for 80 speed-limit in India is 1.We still have many cars without tubeless tires 1a. Pathetic driving skills.

The State of Montana, I think, does not enforce speed limits on their freeways during daytime. On Dec. 8, 1995, Montana replaced its daytime speed limit with a "reasonable and prudent" limit.
And I beg to differ on the driving skills part on the Indian drivers. I think they are perhaps the most skilled drivers on earth But thats my take.

DS nothing personal here but your reference to mumbai-poona expressway speeding reminded me of endless conversations (?) with friends. Everybody insists that road authority has dome very poor job of building concrete based expressway because it is main reason for bursting of tires in summer which leads to fatal crashes in many cases. well, strangely everybody forget about small part of speed at which vehicle was driving at. If you drive at more than double speed, I do not think even studded tires can save you in such cases.

Most of the German Autobahn(expressway) is without speed-limit and the min. speed to maintain is 130 (unless otherwise indicated)...but has least number of fatalities in the world.
As samrya said, I was talking about etiquettes but in general skills too. Knowing the rules (then comes the following) is something I rarely see back home. And Nandya am not talking about your skills but in general driving back home (not only maharashtra but India, Go north or travel with S.T. etc).

Prashant, If the same Germans/Americans ride on Indian roads (an Indian road as in a species or brand of roads), with their grand vehicles operating at 400% payload, with the gasolene being a radical mix of Octane 82 and Kerosene, and about half a billion people on their feet on the road to watch out for, and I am sure the rate of accidents will rise even more
Also, the most important factor for the discrepancy in accident figures is that nowhere in the (advanced) world is a highway system where almost 100% of the highway length involves a direct head-to-head traffic motion in opposite directions. I cant speak for Autobahn's, but in the USA I am yet to come across a highway where vehicles travel at 80 Miles an hour, head-to-head at each other without being separated by a concrete barrier. Place a German on the Mumbai Agra highway at 2 AM and i doubt if he will survive for 5 minutes without blowing the expensive airbags and air curtains all over his face... Chaos-madhe navigate karayla skill lagta baba! chu bhu de ghe, pan my point is that it is far too easy to drive in Europe or USA than in India. I sometimes think the only deaths on freeways in the USA are out of boredom on the wheel
How many Indian drivers (drivers from India who have previously driven in India ) get into accidents on the modern freeways and highways of Europe and USA?
