HI gals
I also sailing in the same boat.
I came out here in DAllas in dec 98. Just 3 months. I used to work as s/w developer back in pune. I am facing problems getting a job bcoz most of the companies aren't ready to sponsor for H1. I guess it's gonna take time.
In the meanwhile am planning to take up some course in the university. I have already completed one course in Interior decoration.
That was fun. Don't get upset unnecessarily and spoil ur present. Just make the most of this free time.
Take care and get started now

Hi everybody,
I am feeling very happy that I found this site and will have good time chatting with you all. I am also of the same status as you.I came on h-4 6 months back .fortunately got a chance to go back home for two months for attending marriages.
I have a 1&half year old son so i pass my time easily .I am happy that i chose to stay home after having kid because kids really need mother at least for first 2-3 years .It is a good idea to take up some course and learn something Let me know if there are any online courses. I would like to do it from home
More later . bye.

Vidya,
If Computers are your forte, try ZDU.com which is an on-line university(!).I am contemplating joining, but haven't yet made the commitment.
You are right about kids needing their mothers.I made that choice 15 years ago and have not regretted it.You can ease into the system as they get more independent.(And make sure that you make them independent, otherwise you might get stuck being a full-time mom forever!)

this is the first time i really read this section, now i wonder why i did not do it earlier.
i faced this problem when my husband was working in saudi, tithe tar i could not even go out without him.
i found a way out, i did volunteer work, in the Indian school, in the American Embassy school which my kids attended.
ek mahnje, i could get out of the house, instead of just sitting in front of the TV, meet lots of people, and get some sort of exposure to a different culture.
and wonder of wonders, the volunteer work i did in the schools there, has actually helped me, when i cam here to canada. ithe tasa problem nahi ala, karan we came here on immigration, and i have a resident visa here. and i went back to school. pun ata nokri shodhtana, people do ask, have u done any volunteer work?
well i dont know if this was / will be of any help, but i just thought of posting it. i took time off from work, when my kids were little, and now getting back to work has been a bit of stress, enjoy the time u have , but put it to good use.

Why being on H4 should sound so bad? I know of a lady who is 50 yrs old and is doing so many things. She stiches labcoats for hospitals as a volunteer, goes to senior citizen centre to help and is learning computers too.She does all this without the car. I feel that those who have worked in India before coming to US, should look at this period as an opportunity to do things for which you never had time before. You can learn craft or home decoration by just watching Discovery channel. Learn about various cuisines on Food network. Don't think that working outside home is the best thing. Just put little more enthusiasm in life and see the difference. ( He anubhavache bol aahet baracha !!!).

Hi All

This is first time I am writing here and I have a different problem. I was about to come to US on H1, when I lost my passport. I have applied for duplicate passport and planning to get married in the meantime. My would-be has agreed to come to US on H4. But the problem is after marraige, If I dont change my name in Passport, will there be any problem in getting H4 for my husband ? Or if I change my name in passport, will the H1 visa which i have already got, be still valid ?

If anyone of you have faced similar situation, pls let me know.

Thanks in advance

Jyotig: There shouldn't be any problem with maiden name passport, since marriage certificate will have your maiden name and your husbands name.

jyotiG :

There won't be any problem. I didn't change name agter marriage. I still go by my maiden name (after 12 years of marriage). My husband came here of H4. All that matters is that the same names are there in marriage certificate.
