It's being just 3 months I am married & have landed up in US.I was working for 5 years in India & now just sitting at home the whole day is boring.Does any one have a good suggestion @ what do H4 Dependents do

Hi Himani,
I don't know which area your were working in earlier but if you have longterm plans to stay in US and later if you are planning to work, you can join some courses here in local universities.
You can also volunteer to work in local libraries or child care centeres or other organisations.
You can get books to read / movies to watch from library.
Go to the gym or a walk every day. you can make new friends when you go out and that way build up your circle.
Plus our housechores also take lot's of time during the day.
Hey you are just married... don't you just want to relax and enjoy your new married life?

I have been going for a walk daily and enjoy house hold work, but there is no proper fuel to my brains as all these thing are very easy & I have been handling difficult tasks,so U know it sometimes bores me

हिमानी, मी तुला स्वानुभवावरून सांगू शकते, स्वत:च्या फील्ड मधे वॉलंटीअर करणं शक्या असेल तर ते कर. पुढे बाकी काही नाही तर रेकमेंडेशनचा तरी फायदा होतो. तू जर आपल्या कामाबद्दल सांगू शकलीस तर लोक तुला जास्त मदत करू शकतील किव्वा सजेशन्स देऊ शकतील.
मी इथे डॉक्टर, एंजीनीअर, PhD असलेल्या मुलींना देखिल असल्या डीपेंडंट विसामुळे frustrate होताना पाहिलय. हळुहळू त्यांचा कॉनफिडन्स कमी होताना पण बघितलय. ते व्हायच्या आत हातपाय हलवले तर नक्की फायदा होतो.
सध्या इथे सजेस्ट केल्याप्रमाणे तु करू शकतेस. पण तुला challenging काही हवं असेल तर आपल्या अनुभवाच्या फिल्ड मधे विचारलेलं बरं असं नाही का वाटंत?

थोडे विषयांतर, पण मी ह्या साईट वर लग्न ठरवताना कोण कोणत्या गोष्टींचा विचार केला जावा, जात्तो ह्यावर प्रदीर्घ चर्चा वाचलेल्या आहेत. त्या पार्श्वभुमीवर, ईतक्या शिकलेल्या पोरी लग्ना नंतर त्यांच्या शिक्षणाचा उपयोग काय होणार हे विसरुन अशी लग्ने करु शकतात? हे वाचुण आस्चर्य वाटले.

किश्या, तुम्ही म्हणता तसं या गोष्टीचा विचार करणार्‍या मुली पण आहेत.. तसेच न करणार्‍या पण आहेत..
अनेकदा मुली विशेषत: दक्षिण भारतात (hyderabad, chennai etc.) चांगले शिकणे हे अनेकदा US/UK वाला नवरा मिळवण्यासाथी असते. हा माझा स्वानुभव आहे. आणि मधे 1998-2002 मध्ये महाराष्ट्रा ही हा प्रकार सर्रास चालू होता.
बर्‍याचदा असंहि होतं कि मुलीचे लग्न २२ - २३ व्या वर्शी केले जाते.. तेंव्हा तिला धड बाहेरच्या देशातल्या market ची कल्पना नसते. आपल्या इथे job मिळने/ करणे तुलनेने खूप सोपे आहे बाहेर्पेक्षा..
आणि मग समोरच्या मुलाची छाप च इतकी जबर्दस्त असते कि अयुष्यतले जवळ जवळ २२ वर्षे खर्च करून घेतलेलं शिक्षण, H4 visa ची limitations याकडे दुर्लक्ष केलं जातं. आइ बाबांना ही मुलगी वेळेत settle व्हावी असं वाटत असतं.. एकूणच सगळ्यात लग्ना आधी त्या मुलीची भूमिका आणि लग्ना नंतर मुलाची भूमिका महत्वाची असते. मुलीला देश नवीन असतो.. तिला मदत करणे, प्रोत्साहन करने ही गरज असते आणि तिनेही तितक्याच जिद्दिने परदेशात करीअर करण्यासाठी उभं राहायचं असतं

Tu misunderstand karat ahes.Me majya navryala lagna adhi 7 varsha olkhat hote tyamule purna vichar karun ha decesion ghetla jato ani shikshnacha mhantlas tar me 5 varsha eka changlya company madhe manager mhanun kam kela ahe ani tithe majya shikshanacha purepur vapar kela ahe.Ithe me fakta eka changlya opportunity sathi thambli ahe ani ekda work permit milale ki mag kahi me ghari basnaryatli nahi.

हिमानी माझ्या माहिती प्रमाणे इथे consultant employers असतात जे h4 असला तर त्यांच्यासाठी h1 फ़ाईल करतात... i know cases of my 2 college frnds who came here on h4 and then got their h1 filed... they are working in the field they wanted. आता चांगला consultant employer भेटणे हे मात्र लक आहे. but there is a way for filing h1 if you are well qualified and have all the academic documents with you.

Tu mhante ahes te barobar ahe ki me voluntary job kela pahije,pan atta navin law pramane H4 vale voluntary job pan karu shakat nahi ani jar tyani te kelale kale tar te tumhala deport kartil ani hya situation madhe employee is wholy considered responsible & not the employer.Khup lokana he mahit nahi ani te illegally he kama karat astat.

That's a good suggestion thanks for that,but I will have to wait till April 07 as the H1B visa quota for this year is over.
Pan me next year chya H1 quota sathi atta pasun halchal karnar ahe & I need good suggestions from experienced people like you

If I was on H4, I would start cotributing to Open Source Projects. I'll go through hundreds of projects listed on http://freshmeat.net , http://sf.net and see in which I am interesed to contribute.
You said that you were Manager, I am not sure if you'll really get a manager job here. Generally they need MBA with gr8 expriance to be manager. So this free period can turn around to be really good time for you, if you start learning programming again.

I did visit the sites you said,but do you think I will able to take up these projects on my H4 status.I know I won't get a manager job initially,but I am not expecting that & about learning yes I will be joining Six Sigma & Lean classes in fall.

those are Open Source projects, no one is paying you for making any contribution you are making to the project. as you are not getting any paycheck you dont need work visa.

ह्या वाक्या बद्दल काही clarification देऊ इछ्छिते :
जो job normal case मध्ये paid आहे, तो job volunteer म्हणुन करू शकत नाही. जो job unpaid volunteer चाच आहे, तो कोणालाही करता येतो.
दुसरी गोष्ट, manager व्हायला MBA लागतच अस नाही. MBA हे specific type चे managerial jobs करतात. technical management आजुन बहुतांशी tech लोकच करतात.
कुठलाही job मिळवताना, work history मध्ये कही वर्षांची gap पडणं हा सर्वात मोठा तोटा समजतात, तेव्हा आपल्या field मध्ये काही न काही तरी करत रहाव.

That's right you cannot do a voluntary job if you are on H4 let it be paid or unpaid.I know manager hoila MBA lagat nahi ani the tumhi promote hotach hwal ani technical person sudha hou shakel manager.Gap padhana changla nahi pan H4 madhe adakala tar there is no way out as the H1 quota is over.Only start trying to get the H1 sponsorer earlier next year.

himani ,mi ithe 1 n 1/2 yr pasun ahe..ag mala hi gharat basun nakose hot..india madhe 3yr job kela..ikade library madhe volunteer job kela..In my opinion tuzya field madhe particular topic che advance study or training ghe..or if u want to change ur field ,do as per ur area or ask ur hubby..dont stick to one thing..ase samaj apale navin career suru zale..mala hi junya athavani alya ki watate kuthe hote mi? aj kai karat ahe?
MS karayache asel tar te kar..GRE toefl dili asel tar uttam or give it early ..coz it'll change in Oct 2007 ...
