Usually I toss all those credit cards offer you get in the mail, without even opening. Last week I received an offer from Discover card, and one thing that caught my eye , 0% APR for balance transfer for life (not just introductory period).

I have signed up for the offer. This is what I know so far.
-The balance transfer can be obviously for the credit limit you get, but still it is quite substantial.
- 0% is NOT intro offer, it is indeed for the life of balance, (Not your life, since you have to pay minimum balance every month, which will eventually lower the balance)
- After July, 2007 you must make minimum two purchases per month. Purchases can be as low as 25 cents. Even if you miss once, the rate will shoot very high. You don't need any purchase till July 2007.
-There is 3% balance xfer fee but the max it can go is $50. Balance txfer must happen before 1 Feb, 2007.

- And this is the best part. You can pay any balance transfer, including mortgage. I just used the deal to prepay some part of my mortgage.

-And This is NOT so good part. The offer is sent to only some people. I did not see being offered to public on their website. I don't know what qualifies. But it does not hurt watching any deal from Discover in your mail or call them and ask if they will give you this deal.

Thanks Ajay for sharing.

Recently Google introduced Google Checkout service, if you open the account on Google Checkout and shop on websites which accept payment via Google, you can save $10, each time you use google checkout. You can buy memory cards, wirless mouse etc mostly items which cost @ $30-40, so that you get free shipping and also get $10 off. Here are the participated stores
http://www.google.com/checkout/m.html.

Buy.com is offering so many deals with Google checkout. I purchased 2 Gb SD/Mini SD cards for my cell phones/ camera.

I just received this offer from discover in the mail on the week end. Thanks, ajay for sharing. Now that you have mentioned, I'll certainly look into it. But my Q is what if the discover stops this credit card after few years or so...(sometimes it happenes!)

Vin: Usually, if they stop such CC then they would offer regular CC or convert your existing.

Vin,
I thought about that and transferred only the amount that I would be comfortable to pay if they suddenly changed terms and conditions (which I agree can happen anytime). So this does not mean you can pay entire mortgage if your credit limit is very high. :-) But still it is good deal if you can take that much risk. I was anyway thinking of prepaying some amount, so this way I don't have to use my own cash now and invest that cash on anything giving more than 0% returns.

Yogibear,
I agree...I am sure.... but for a higher rate..

Ajay,

If you were already thinking of pre paying then it makes sense. Because this "too good to be true" offer seems like an incentive for others to default on the account( but then again, I have to assume that they are making this offer to credit worthy people and not to just anybody) and then I am concerned discover may change the terms after 1-2 years. We were thinking of pre paying too. Just have to figure out the difference/the best option between if we refi'ed or pre paying a bit and should this offer gets cancelled down the line, what would be an average inetrest rate for the CC. Thanks anyways for posting this offer. नाही तर लक्ष पण गेलं नसतं. अशी आत्ता पर्यन्त किति फाडली आहेत आॅफर्स न बघता!!
