अनुभव आहेत ते, Yash Birla (Chairman of Yash Birla Group) यांचे-
I was 11 when I started reading Upanishads. When my friends pored over Hardy Boys,I would spend hours deciphering and imbibing the sayings of the scriptures. I did not realize then that karmically life was preparing me for my destiny—the tragedy that was unfold when I was 22. In a tragedy that struck in the most sinister manner, I lost my parents and my sister. It was as if someone had pulled the ground from beneath my feet. But my belief in spirituality and the afterlife helped me cope with shock and depression that followed. My faith stood rock solid.
The tragedy also opened another realm of understanding for me; that pain is emotional and it’s all in the mind. The mind is like a pack of horses pulling you in different directions. The end game is how you take them. After all, it’s you who’s the ruler of your mind.
Life is like movie watching experience—you are absorbed in it till you are watching it, emotionally charged , you cry and laugh along with actors. But the movement, you are out of theatre, you snap out of it. That’s the art of detachment. People may comment on my lifestyle, but we don’t have to balance in life. I try and live life to the fullest but remain detached from the trapping that come along with it.
You may say it’s easy for me to talk about God and spirituality because of the affluent life I lead. But I don’t see it in that way, Materialistic desires give you momentary kicks. Today you may dream of owning a Mercedes car. The day you get it, your happiness knows no bounds, but what happens after a month of driving it? Won’t you long for a Bentley? Every material desire has its diminishing returns.Happiness is being in a state of ‘absence of desires’. If you have desire to make money, make it , but keep in mind the higher purpose. That’s when the desire gets redirected into a satvik desire. I value my body, family and business as I know it’s not my own but something handed to me by Him. I am just the custodian. If I violet these, I demean the Owner. I believe in Karma Yog. My business is done with Him in mind.
In the modern realm, there have been endless debates and discussions about the existence of God and the need for religion. Who says the modern definition of being religious and the equation with God is different from the conventional one? According to me, the concept of God doesn’t change with time or passing of generations. It’s like electricity, you can”t see it till you switch on the light. The Shashtras say every generation will experience spirituality in a different way.The universe is divided into four time zones— Satyug, Dwaparyug, Tretayug and Kalyug. We are living in Kalyug, which is considered more bad than good. We have to fight many odds to attain spirituality. Therefore, the efforts to put in to attain spirituality ,will be bigger than any other Yug, and will also give much greater results.
Today restless souls are running helter-skelter looking for the divine. They feel God can be attained by meditating in the office cubicle. People have images of God on their innerwear. How preposterous! Would you sport your parents’ photographs on your socks? We are so blinded by your urge to make a statement that it has become difficult to locate an abstract God within us. Therefore, religion is a packaged path to come to terms with the ultimate spirit of God within us.
I take my children to Vrindavan as well as Verginia. They must know both worlds. It’s not that they are only ensconced in their posh south Mumbai circle, but they also see the slums and the dead in the cementery. When we go to the Himalayas, we stop by little hamlets or temples just to give the kids a feel that God is everywhere. They do dhyan, jaap, pranayam, and write ‘Sri Krishna saranam Mamha’ in their textbooks everyday. I check on them regularly. It’s not that I impose my thoughts and beliefs on them, but as a parent, I show them the right path. It’s up to them whether they follow it later in their lives.

असे काही वाचले की आपली श्रद्धा आणखी दृढ व्हायला मदत होते. नाहीतर अधून मधून शंका येते, का बरे आपण या सगळ्या गोष्टींवर विश्वास ठेवतो, ते बिर्ला (किंवा दुसरे कुणि)बघा, काय मज्जा आहे त्यांची. ते असल्या गोष्टींवर विश्वास ठेवतात का? मग आपण तरी कशाला?
पण मग असे काही वाचनात आले की बरे वाटते. आपण जे करतो, किंवा जे करायच्या प्रयत्नात आहोत ते बरोबर आहे, असे समाधान मिळून अधिकाधिक प्रयत्न करू लागतो.
